Dr. Richard Barry

Dr. Richard Barry is a local specialist ophthalmologist, working in Canberra. He is the principal of Blink Eye Clinic.

Dr. Barry is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialist, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons.

He is a graduate of the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital, and subsequently obtained international sub-specialist fellowship training in macula and retina disease, as well as vitreoretinal surgery.

A highly-regarded and expert cataract surgeon, Dr. Barry has extensive experience in the most complex and challenging cases, and with the use of premium intraocular lenses.

Dr. Barry believes in providing the most modern, up-to-date and innovative ophthalmic service to his patients in Canberra. His new practice, Blink, located in Barton, is a testament to this. With the most cutting-edge technology available anywhere in the country, Dr. Barry and his staff will ensure you get a world-class service, locally.

Dr. Barry is also actively involved in teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists and optometrists as a lecturer at the University of Sydney and an adjunct professor at the University of Canberra.

Dr. Matthew Spargo

Dr. Matthew Spargo is a visiting specialist ophthalmologist from Sydney, practicing at Blink Eye Clinic on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Dr. Spargo graduated in medicine with Honours from The University of Sydney, before completing a Master of Public Health from the same institution. His general ophthalmology training took place at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital. Dr. Spargo then undertook subspecialty training in paediatric ophthalmology and adult squint surgery in the United Kingdom, working in Cheltenham, Birmingham and Oxford.

While Dr. Spargo was in the UK, he gained immense experience in complex adult cataract surgery and paediatric cataract surgery, acquiring a vast set of skills to operate inside small eyes, often with complex anatomy. He prides himself on ensuring the highest level of safety, while also striving for the best possible visual outcome. He also offers surgical services for squints, childhood lid problems, watery eyes in babies and adult pterygium.

Dr. Spargo is a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital and a Visiting Medical Officer at Broken Hill Base Hospital. At these institutions, he is responsible for training the next generation of eye surgeons. He is also a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.

Dr. Spargo has a passion for delivering the highest standard of care to his patients, taking the time to explain the nature of the problem and the options to fix it. He prides himself on clear and concise communication, helping his patients navigate the complex world of ophthalmology.

Dr. Joanne Teong

Dr. Joanne Teong is a visiting Medical Retina Specialist from Sydney.
 
Dr. Teong is an Australian and New Zealand-trained Ophthalmologist and fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She studied medicine at the University of Notre Dame in Perth, Western Australia before completing her Ophthalmology training in New Zealand. She subsquently advanced her skills in cataract surgery, oculoplastics, glaucoma and retinal diseases in regional Tasmania. This was followed by a sub-specialty fellowship in Medical Retina at the renowned Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, where she continued to hone her skills in managing macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases and complex cataract surgery.
 
Dr. Teong is passionate about teaching the next generation of Ophthalmologists and is on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Ophthalmic Sciences Examiners Committee.
 
Dr. Teong believes in a warm and approachable communication style where the patient’s best interest always comes first.
